Superstorm (2018)

Superstorm was my answer to one question: how can I benefit my immediate community with design? Though somewhat small in scope, Superstorm was a design project which stretched my design skills and forced me to consider how exactly design can be used to lead others with a series of well-balanced visual ideas.

The idea was simple: make the assets that a creative community could use to bond together. Go from there.

Sketches & Process

Three ideas contributed to the final Superstorm logo: Community, additive color, and brainstorming. After a while of noodling around with visual ideas, I sat down one day and hammered out the initial logo which eventually gave way to the final, seen above.

The outlining stroke was especially important in the end, because it tied the whole visual system together. See, Superstorm wasn’t about having one logo to band together under, but rather it was about celebrating each facet of Grace College’s Visual and Performing Arts Department: Fine Art, Digital Design, Media, and the other creatives. By switching the contents within the brain, I was able to tailor a number of different logos which would help students and other creatives identify with the Superstorm community.
Here’s what I mean…

In the end, the idea of Superstorm lives on. However at the time of designing these materials other tasks ate away at my time, and so I wasn’t able to make much else happen with the concept. However, this project firmly cemented my belief in creative community, and I still have a deep love for fostering creativity in others— one which I will carry with my forever.
